What’s happening in the
life of our church

March 20, 2024

A Message from Rev. Alice

Dear brothers and sisters on the journey,

I know you are no strangers to Holy Week and its moods and rhythms. It is a Dark Wood within a Dark Wood, a more deeply intense storyline and, therefore, a more demanding invitation. Holy Week is not for the fainthearted. Yet, because we know how the story ends, we sometimes gloss past the invitation to sit in the shared, dark space. But, you are most certainly invited. It truly is the only way to understand the absolute joy of what Easter Sunday portrays.

Here’s a glimpse of what is offered you:

  • Palm Sunday Service, 9:30am: We will commence Holy Week with a special Palm Sunday service, commemorating Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Join us as we reflect on the significance of this event and prepare our hearts for the journey ahead.
  • Wednesday Dinner and Prayer Station Setup, 5:30pm: On Wednesday at 5:30pm, we will join together for our weekly family meal. Afterwards, we will set up the prayer stations which will be in use throughout Thursday and Friday. These prayer stations (in fellowship hall) are available for everyone to experience on Thursday from 9-noon and 1-4pm; throughout the prayer vigil (see below), and on Good Friday from 4pm-7pm.
  • Maundy Thursday Observance, 7pm: On Maundy Thursday, we will gather for a dramatic portrayal of some of the characters with prominence in Holy Week. This intimate service will include scripture readings, prayers, the sharing of communion and stripping the altar as we remember Jesus’ final meal with his disciples.
  • Prayer Vigil: begins after the Maundy Thursday service until 6am. Jesus said, “Stay here and keep watch with me” as he leads his disciples into the garden of Gethsemane. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” (Matthew 26:36). This is our invitation to respond to his request. If you have not yet signed up, we encourage you to do so.
  • Good Friday Reflection, 7pm: Join us on Good Friday for a tennabrae-like service of the seven last words of Christ. With a variety of church members providing meditations, solemn music and moments of silence, we will reflect on the profound love and grace demonstrated on the cross.
  • Easter Sunday Celebration, 9:30am: We will conclude Holy Week with the joyous celebration of the resurrection on Easter Sunday. Join us for a vibrant worship service filled with music, fellowship, and a message of hope as we rejoice in the victory of life over death.

Throughout Holy Week, we invite you to participate in these experiences as we walk through the central events of our faith. Whether you are seeking solace, inspiration, or community, you are welcome to join us as we draw closer to God and to one another.

Warmly,
Rev. Alice Ford

Easter Cards

Help our members and friends who can’t join us in church on Easter by sending a card. Who doesn’t like getting real mail these days? And, what better time than Easter to share the love. There are plastic eggs with the addresses of our at-home members inside in the Narthex. Take the address out of the egg, leave the egg and send a card to the person noted. There are also Easter cards to use if needed.

Thank you from the Congregational Care Team!
